Booka Shade The Sun & The Neon Light

Post  Admin on Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:19 pm

Booka Shade Gold Collection HERE. Booka Shade knows how to make music. From the moment the emotional,
swelling strings of “Outskirts” strike the nerves, it is apparent that
their grasp of song progression is second to none. On The Sun & The Neon Light,
the German duo (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier) manages to create
songs that are all extremely individual and unique while managing to
stay close to the dark, cryptic flavor of the album as a whole. Oh, but
you shouldn’t worry; there are plenty of dance floor moments too. While
tracks such as “Dusty Boots” brings forth a slight feeling of
observance, complete with crawling synths and Law and Order-ish guitar,
the perfect set of drums kick in soon- indicating definite
danceability. Speaking of variety, “Sweet Lies” can only be described
as the best electro r&b song every created. “You Don’t Know What
You Mean To Me (J’s Lullaby),” as the last song on the album, ties
everything together very well. Written by Walter while his newborn son
was asleep at his side, it really conveys the innocence and peace of
being an infant, as steam-like surges of sound bring forth the rhythm
created by sleep. The only real complaint to be had here is that all of
the songs seem to last for very similar lengths of time, with very
similar amounts of leeway between each other. A bit more variance in
terms of these aspects would have rounded everything out. Other than
that minute observation, The Sun & The Neon Light is a
fantastic album. It is what listening to a movie would feel like. Every
track is captivating and paints vivid images of some sort of storyline.
Booka Shade is the new Imax.
